I do not want America to be great again,
To believe that it was, is the greatest sin,
For those who paid the price because of their skin,
I want an America greater than it’s ever been.
To say that America once was great,
Is to forget entire generations that lived with hate,
And other generations burdened by the weight,
Of injustices triggered by a single trait.
Hate in their hearts and a race that they feared.
Hate for a color that should be revered
What makes America a great place to be,
Is the notion that we all should be free,
The belief in unwavering equality,
Where freedom reigns, for you and for me.
Until this is true for everyone,
The work we do will never be done.
Injustice for a few, means justice for none.
Without liberty for all, there will be peace for no one.
Do not look to the past and grieve,
Look into the future and believe,
The reality is possible to conceive,
But nothing will change when so many are naive.
